Protecting Ontarians from Respiratory Illnesses
MARKHAM, October 16, 2025 – Ontario Health atHome is supporting their clients access immunization services this fall and winter, when respiratory illness rates typically peak across the province, as part of the Ministry of Health immunization programs.
“Respiratory virus circulation increases every fall in Ontario, and staying up to date on routine and recommended immunizations is one of the easiest ways to protect yourself and others around you”, said Anna Greenberg, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Ontario Health atHome. “Our team has been supporting homebound patients with COVID-19 and flu vaccines for several years, and we’re well positioned to support the government’s plan to expand RSV immunization availability this year.”
In addition to immunization program for clinically homebound patients, Ontario Health atHome care coordinators are contacting currently active home and community care patients who meet the eligibility criteria for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) immunization. This includes high-risk adults aged 60-74 per eligibility, and everyone over the age of 75.
COVID-19, flu, and RSV immunizations will be available at no cost to patients who meet the eligibility criteria. Immunizations will be administered during home visits or in a nursing clinic.
Public Health Ontario’s weekly surveillance report shows that COVID-19, influenza (flu) and RSV are already circulating at low rates; with upward trends expected.
“We are working with our partners – Ontario Health, contracted nursing service providers, Community Paramedicine and retirement home operators – to align efforts to provide this immunization service to as many eligible Ontarians as possible. We are also committed to supporting caregivers who reside with vulnerable patients, by offering them the immunizations when possible”, said Ontario Health atHome’s Chief Patient Services Officer Lisa Burden. “Providing this immunization service is just one of the many ways that our team helps keep people healthy at home and in the community.”
Currently active Ontario Health atHome patients can contact their care coordinator for more information.
